The Futurebirds have played an important part in our slow and wide journey. It was only a few weeks after our first encounter with the phrase "slow wide turns" that we were introduced to the sweet soaring music of the Futurebirds. It was during that same summer back in 2011, that we were fortunate enough to grab tickets to see the Futurebirds open for the "Drive by Truckers". The small Orange Peel venue in Asheville, NC was the perfect setting for one of the most memorable nights of our lives. The unique blend of instruments and intensely unpredictable performance was for us, life changing. I'm not sure any of us remembered much of the main performance, but we'll never forget those one of a kind psychedelic jams in the stage stealing opening session. The birds website www.futurebirdsmusic.com describes our experience that night perfectly. Their about page reads, "Early in their existence, Futurebirds’ balance of homespun roots and forward-thinking exploration made the band a favorite in and around their bohemian hometown." Rarely do you find a unique group of guys like the birds that can make a living playing the music they love and be enjoying every second in between. So check out the Athens local Futurebirds, and keep it slow and wide. We hope you've added another sweet band to your playlist!
